Believe us. We’re not exaggerating when we say that the coffee at Toma Café is the best you’ll find in Madrid. There has to be more to it than the love, and care the put into the preparation of each cup. We have yet to figure out the trick!
This coffee tastes like coffee. It may seem a bit silly saying that, but it’s true. It’s not watered down like the coffee in many of the bars here, but it maintains the intense, toasted aroma that coffee should have. Whether you drink it alone, with milk, or however else, it’s always apparent that this coffee has something special. It’s real. It comes all the way from Guatemala, Ethiopia, Brazil, etc. and they toast it themselves.
If you love café solo, you will enjoy each and every sip. If you prefer your coffee with milk, ask for a “cortado”, that’s how they say it here in Spain, and choose the type of milk you prefer: soy, almond, skim. One of the most unique options is the Espresso Tonic! Yes, coffee with tonic water! The only way to describe it is bubbly. They also offer wonderful espresso, marvelous cappuccinos, aromatic ristretto and smooth lattes. There’s also a chai tea that got our attention!
Toma Café is an experience. There’s always people around, even late at night! You’ll see wooden benches, low tables, scattered chairs, and a common table in the center. In the back you’ll find the counter where you order food. Go to the right and you’ll meet their wonderful baristas who will take your order. Next to the register you’ll see cakes, cookies, and the dessert of the day. We recommend the chocolate cookie, the carrot cake, or any of their muffins to have with your coffee. You won’t regret it! If the weather is nice, grab a seat near the large open windows! There’s nothing better!
We love the vibe of Toma Café, and not just because it smells like coffee, but because there are people practicing languages, others working on their computers, reading, couples chatting away… it’s like being in the living room of a big, shared house!
The space is tiny, we know. But that’s no excuse because you can also order what you want to go and eat it on the streets of Malasaña! You can also find their station at MadrEAT, an event that brings together the very best food tracks in Madrid
