We at Mad 4 Madrid like tacos. No really, we do. We’re always on the search for a new restaurant that has both great food and reasonable prices. Eating out in a restaurant should always be a pleasurable experience, and one that can be shared among friends, family and significant others. On that very note, there are few things more pleasurable than eating out, and coming home with a few euros left over in your wallet.
There are several Mexican restaurants in Madrid (and we’re on a mission to try them all) and the really awesome thing about Takos is that there were actual Mexican people eating and working there! Go figure! That is always a good sign, no? The menu is quite simple and straightforward: tacos, tortas, or Mexican sandwiches, quesadillas and alambres another typical Mexican dish. The location of the restaurant is relatively easy to find, it’s tucked away in a plaza so make sure to pay attention, or you may miss it. The restaurant itself is extremely casual because who needs fancy decorations when the food itself does all the talking? There are a few paper decorations that hang from the ceiling a light music that’s playing in the background, but the noise level overall is low, so that you can both enjoy your meal and your company. There are large windows, and lots of natural light. If you manage to take your now away from your plate to look around, we think you’ll pleased with the simple, understated decor.
We started off with a couple of margaritas on the rocks and a negra modelo. The margaritas are only 4 euros and that is an awesomely wicked combination: cheap + delicious= good times for all. The tacos we tried were the chicken, and of course the namesake tacos al pastor. They were flavorful, tasty and oh-so-addictive. For 1 euro a pop, why not indulge a bit? The quesadillas at 2,50 euros were tiny, but again, packed with flavor and did not disappoint on that front. We however, enjoyed the tortas most of all because of the many layers of frijoles, sour cream, avocado, carne asada, and cheese. The bread was perfectly toasted and if you ask for salsa picante, just know that they bring the heat. We had a hard time fitting everything on one plate because with so many tasty options, well, space is limited.
For 10 euro a person, you can enjoy a few tacos, a torta and an ice-cold margarita to wash it all down: a deal like that doesn’t come by very often. We here at Mad 4 Madrid recommend this place for small to medium sized groups who want to share food and of course, get messy and eat with their hands, because that’s what it’s all about. Life is messy. Tacos are messy. Life is tacos. Okay, perhaps that’s an exaggeration. Let them eat tacos!
