La Emualda: lover’s menu
La Emualda is a castizo place, which means “pure Madrilenian”. Also, it is located next to the Retiro. The date can be perfect: a beautiful walk around the park and then, dinner here. The menu starts with a glass of cava Anna de Codorníu, three plates, one dessert and a bottle of wine Viña Pomal. You will eat Sentimiento de fresas con aguacate y su pareja de jamón de pato (Feeling of strawberries with avocado and its duck ham companion), Merluza en matrimonio de pétalos de rosa y espuma de cava “te quiero mi-mar” (Hake on a rose petals marriage and champagne foam “I want to pamper you”), Semicrudo de ternera encamada con picardías de monte herbales y roquitas de mango (Semi raw beef bedridden with mischief of herbs and mango rocks) and Cúpula de chocolate, meloso de fruta de la pasión y electricidad en boca con chispa de oro (Chocolate dome, passion fruit and electricity in mouth with a gold sparkle). It is actually the lover’s menu. Isn’t it?

Lateral: pinchos under the candlelight
This restaurant is specialised in pinchos, the typical Spanish way to eat a lot of plates but in little portions. At night the place is just lighted up by candles, creating a romantic, intimate and cozy atmosphere. The best pincho is tortilla de patata, juicy and big. If you prefer to share, there is a tasting plate, perfect for two (16,7€) with six diferent pinchos like sirloin steak with caramelized onion or ham and boletus croquetas. There are six Lateral restaurants, so you can choose the one that suits you better. They are all similar but the one at Castellana 42 has a beautiful terrace. They don’t reserve tables, so it is better to get there early.

Garbo: just for cheeky people [Closed]
If you are looking for something really daring, Garbo has a special Saint Valentine’s Day menu and it is really -really- sexy. It is inspired by ’50 Shades of Grey’. The menu opens up with grilled scallops with red pepper and chorizo tapenade and a tower of scrambled eggs on gaufrette potatoes and crispy bacon as starters. Then, you are offered to choose between two options: cod confit on a cushion of potatoes and asparagus or beef steak with foie and crispy puff pastry with caramelized red peppers and potatoes. For dessert there are mini pumcakes with raspberry foam. This is all be accompanied by some cava, and you will go home with a sparkling present, a bottle of Elyssia Rosado cava. La Gabinoteca is fun. Due to its originality, it is one of our favorite restaurants in the city! The reasons are plates as the “non-authentic” Caesar salad, served in a pot; the “infiltrated” chicken wings; the “shaked” gazpacho, served in a cocktail shaker; or the Potito (jar of baby porridge) with egg, potato and truffle, similar to a tortilla de patata but with all the ingredients ready for you to mix up. The homemade cakes and the chocolate foam are the best options for dessert. Definitetly, it is a nice place that looks like a loft in New York, full of colours and curiosities. We recommend arriving early because they don’t reserve tables. La Gabinoteca is your restaurant if you and your partner are foodies and enjoy eating crazy recipes or new flavours.
