Mastropiero: Gourmet Pizza Oasis

Pizza has to be one of the widely loved foods on the planet, with so many varieties that it is, dare I say it, an art form. That being said it’s easy to mess up and hard to perfect, though this pizzeria certainly rises to the challenge.

Pizza has to be one of the most recognizable, popular and arguably, most delicious foods on the planet. There are so many ways to make pizza that it truly is an art form. Therein lies the problem: it’s easy to mess up, and hard to perfect. Mastropiero has managed to offer a variety of pizza toppings that are united by one common denominator: quality.

If your idea of fine dining is Papizza at 3am, well, hold onto your hat when you go to Mastropiero because you are about to be overwhelmed by a flavor dance party in your mouth. The price may seem exorbitant in comparison to, say, 1,50 euros a slice; however, you do, genuinely, get what you pay for. The small pizzas start at around 10,00 euros and go up to about 11,50 or for the large between 21,00 and 23,00 euros. One really cool feature is that you can get half & half so more bang for your buck. Try two flavors on one pizza for the price of one. We opted erótica with onion, mozzarella, Roquefort cheese, celery salt and walnuts. The other half was covered in delicious prosciutto, mozzarella, ham, oregano, olives and peppers. The fact that the base is always crunchy and the cheese is always melted to perfection baffles us here at Mad 4 Madrid, but whatever magic they’re using at Mastropiero, it’s working.

The place gets really packed around dinnertime, so much so that there are two separate locations. We landed a table at the Calle Palma restaurant and had avery pleasant dining experience. The noise level was moderate, the environment was extremely casual as if you were sitting in Grandma’s kitchen, and best of all, there’s free dessert. No, that’s not a typo: there’s a sample plate of dulce de leche and cheesecake with a jam of sorts. The owners are argentine, and can often be seen chatting with the customers. This place makes us feel warm and fuzzy.

They offer a "Gallego" style pizza with pulpo, or octopus, that is seasoned to perfection.
