Marià Fortuny i Marsal: 1838 – 1874

The Museo Nacional del Prado presents an exhibition about Marià Fortuny i MarsalThis exhibition is focused on the Spanish artist who had a greater international presence in the last third of the 19th century. In oil painting, his precise, colorful and brilliant technique allowed him a new approach to nature, especially to capture the light. This was influenced by his mastery of watercolor, which dedicated him as the great promoter of this technique in his time. To sum it up his paintings are colorful, with a vivacious iridescent brushstroke that at times recalls the softness of Rococo painting but also anticipates impressionist brushwork.

This exhibition will include all these aspects of the creation of Fortuny. All the works have been chosen carefully according to their quality and significance.
