Having a drink in Madrid can be a unique experience: you can chose to do it with the city skyline, in a 150 years local or with one of the best barmen behind the bar.
Our nightlife is famous in Spain for the wide range of clubs, pubs and bars that can be found in the city center. Getting a good cocktail prepared by a real bartender is more difficult in a nightclub -if not impossible. So, if you’re looking for an authentic barroom to enjoy the afternoon or evening, here you have the top five:
After twenty four years we can say that this is the genuine cocktail bar. It is a must for anyone coming to visit Madrid. It is a meeting place for the select Madrilians (including actors, tv stars, etc.) who want to enjoy the best and finest drinks in the city. The experience here is like staying at home thanks to Fernando Del Diego, who cares about every little detail. Essential on your map because of the White Russian (vodka, coffee liqueur and milk), San Álvaro (rum, tea, peppermint) or the unique Diego (vodka, Advocaat, apricot brandy and lime). There are 45 kinds of gins. Cocktails can be taken with Spanish ‘tapas’.

Have a drink with the best views and a backdrop as Madrid is a pleasure. The perfect plan is to climb to this cocktail lounge located at the roof of the hotel Innside Madrid Sweden (maybe you will stay there) around 8 pm to watch the sunset over Palacio de Cibeles, the Colón Tower, the skyscrapers or El Retiro park. Their cocktails are improvised: you can order the classic ones (mojito, Manhattan, daiquiri) or tell the bartender your tastes and let him or her surprise you. The roof is divided in two floors: on the first one you can enjoy the bar, a little pool and high tables. The second one has large white sofas, chairs, tables… The perfect place for groups as well as couples.

Le Cabrera [CLOSED]
All is new at Le Cabrera: since September 2014 its drinks and meals have changed. Definitely, you need to taste the Tangerine (Tanqueray gin, elderflower liqueur, tangerine, lemon, rosemary sugar and egg) –always in- or the Don Diablo (Don Julio Blanco tequila, lime juice, cassis crème and ginger beer). And now the gastrobar offers different creations depending on market products, although it is always possible to find croquetas de jamón ibérico (high quality Spanish ham croquettes) or bombones de carne con foie gras caramelizado y puré de trufa (meat bonbon with caramelized foie gras and truffle puree). British style mixed with modern corners, bar stools and sofas along the walls. A small temple to professional bartending, mixology, premium drinks and wines. And 90 different gins.

Perhaps it is not the most glamorous restaurant in Madrid but it is for sure the most authentic and the oldest place serving drinks in the city! From 1841, the best gin & tonics and classic cocktails as the Mediterranean Julep have passed by this place, accompanied by the typical cuisine of Madrid. The classical tiles that once decorated the walls remain intact, like its wooden bar, crystal chandeliers and huge mirrors.
