We at Mad4Madrid adore going to the movies! It’s truly an activity that engages all of your senses at once. We’re always looking for new and exciting places to feed our passion for mainstream and independent films alike. That’s why when we happened upon Dr. Steam Cafe Cine, we were tickled pink! Why you ask? This quaint spot in the heart of Lavapies serves typical “movie food” and projects international films from Tuesday through Sunday. Their movie listings change on a monthly basis; however, if you want to stay current you can sign up for their newsletter through the website.
For example. during the month of October the following films will be on rotation:
“La última noche”
“Amanece que no es poco”
“I saw the devil”
“Be kind rewind”
The really awesome thing about Dr. Steam is that they show lesser known films in an intimate and chill environment. There are small rooms that seat about 10 people comfortably on big, cozy couches and chairs. It’s like you’re watching a movie in your living room!
What to eat:
If you start feeling a bit peckish while watching a film, Dr. Steam also sells munchies such as hummus and pita chips, nachos with cheese, and of course, freshly popped popcorn. There are meal combos for special prices such as popcorn and craft beer for 6 euros.
Rent your own room:
Another really cool feature of Dr. Steam is that you can rent your own room for private viewings. The only catch is that there should be at least 5 people for the film; however, that’s easy to do. You should call, or stop in to make a reservation. The idea is to give them a bit of notice so that just in case they don’t have the film, they can get it.
Dr. Steam hosts different semi-private viewings for children and their parents, and you can even bring the dog along if they’re well-behaved. There’s a new feature “Sesión teta” for new moms and dads to enjoy movies too! These showings take place on Wednesdays at 17:30 and Sundays at 12:30. Again, there’s a minimum of 5 people but the cost to enter is only 3,30 with a drink! This is what makes Dr. Steam great: it’s a neighborhood spot, with the neighborhood in mind. There’s no reason that just because you’re a new mom or pop that you shouldn’t have a chance to get out, and unwind at the movies.
You don’t need to buy tickets! There are several combos, or you can simply add an extra 2 euros to whatever you buy at the cafe and see a film. It’s a great low-cost plan! Some of the combos include:
Session Infantil: 3,90 euros (comes with popcorn and a drink)
Session Merienda: 5,00 euros (comes with cake and a drink)
Session Cena: 9,00 (comes with hotdog, drink and nachos)
Session Copa: 8,50 euros (comes with popcorn and a cocktail)
Session Artesian: 6,00 euros (craft beer and popcorn)
With these prices, there’s no need to stay at home! Get out and enjoy all that Madrid and Dr. Steam have to offer
