6 Things to do in Madrid in Fall:

Are you spending your first Fall in Madrid, or just passing through? Either way, we’ve found some events and ideas for day trips that will make you wish Fall came more than once a year!

Fall is here in the city we love the most: Madrid. Below we’ve compiled a few things to do in the city this time of year.

1. La Casa de Fieras

Take a stroll through Retiro and check out the changing leaves. While you’re at it, there’s a hidden gem buried in the park: a library! Not many people know about it, but we want you to have the inside scoop.

2. Titanic Exhibition:

Take a trip back in time and visit the most popular traveling exhibit in Europe: The Titanic. It will be on display at Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa until March 6th. If the wind gets a bit to brisk for you, this is a great way to escape the chilly Fall weather and truly enjoy being inside.

3. Día del Mercado at Casa de Campo:

Once a month, vendors from all over Madrid gather in Casa de Campo in order to sell their freshest artisanal produce. It’s a great plan for a Saturday if you’re in town November 7th or December 5th. There re also food trucks and ready-to-eat dishes, so go, grab a bottle of wine from one of the vendors and have an urban picnic! Find out all you need to know about Día del Mercado here.

4. Eat Chestnuts!

In November, when the weather begins to turn, you’ll start to notice a smoky deliciousness in the air. Well, that’s because there are literally chestnuts roasting on an open fire! Castañas are a Madrid tradition and a cucurucho, or a paper funnel will run you between 2 and 3 euros. The most popular stands are near Callao and the Reina Sofia Museum.

5. Hayedo de Montejo:

Maybe we’re cheating since technically, this is further out of Madrid; however, it would make a fantastic Fall day trip as it’s only 1 and a half hours from Plaza Castilla by car. You can also take the Line 199 bus from Plaza Castilla. This hidden place is well worth the drive if you want to escape the hustle of the city center and truly appreciate nature in all its beauty. You can reserve your tickets for Hayedo de Montejo here.

6. Saturday Barbecue at The Hat:

Every Saturday this Fall, The Hat opens its terrace for a kickback, chill barbecue complete with beef hamburgers (from Ávila), chicken skewers made in the moment and grilled over charcoal, and salads too! The whole idea is to enjoy the Fall weather, music, and the terrace. It’s 15 euros per person and you call to reserve your spot!

The Templo de Debod is ideal! This Egyptian temple has become a Madrid landmark, and since it sits on a hill, it's the perfect place to watch the sunset. Don't forget your camera!
